fKALAMAZOO (WKZO)– A routine traffic stop turned into a foot race and a manhunt complete with a tracking dog after Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers stopped a Ford Taurus for a traffic stop in the 800 block of Woodbury at about 2:30 Saturday morning.
There were three people in the car and both the back seat passenger and the front seat driver decided to make a run for it when marijuana was found in the vehicle.
They knew they would be searched next. One of the suspects got all the way to the 500 block of Florence before the PSO chased them down and cuffed them.
The second was found hiding behind a house in the 700 block of Florence by a K-9 tracking dog.
The search of the car turned up a .40 caliber handgun under the front seat.
The two who fled were both 20-and will face various drug and gun charges, and resisting arrest. The driver, who stayed with the car was not arrested but may be cited for marijuana and driving on a suspended license.
They will likely spend the weekend in jail before they are formally arraigned.
