MANLIUS TOWNSHIP (WKZO-AM) — One man was injured and his dog was killed when a huge explosion at a storage unit housing a marijuana grow operation near Saugatuck blew the building apart.
The blast was so strong it also damaged several nearby homes.
Trooper Andrew Jamrog was six miles away when the building blew up.
“We could feel the building shake,” Jamrog said.
Jamrog said the explosion blew shredded marijuana all over the area from what was a legal medical marijuana growing operation.
“Most of the places back here were in compliance,” Jamrog said. “It’s still preliminary in the investigation.”
It wasn’t the drugs that caused the blast. Investigators say it was a leaky propane tank used to heat the building that filled the storage unit with the explosive gas.
