KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Kalamazoo Public Schools will be adding new courses to their schedules for middle and high school students next fall.
They will be collaborating with the Confucius Center at Western Michigan University to offer a Chinese language course. They will also be adding auto brakes, poetry, graphic design and a couple of associates degree pathways in applied science and liberal arts to their middle college curriculum.
“Those would be in addition to the machinist and welding programs and computer technician programs you approved for inclusion in the course bulletin last December,” Michael Rice, the superintendent of the district, said Thursday.
Rice said the middle college allows a student to pick up a high school diploma and an associate’s degree in 13 years.
Trustees noted is was nice to be in a position to add courses at a time when most schools districts are deleting them because of budget cuts.
