KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — GasBuddy.com says the average price for a gallon of regular in Kalamazoo has jumped 21 cents in the past 24 hours to $1.89.
Patrick DeHaan, a senior petroleum analyst with the company, said the spike was bound to happen. Many gas stations have been losing money at the pump since before Thanksgiving.
“The stations that had to raise their prices are, likely, returning to some sort of profitability,” DeHaan said.
But he also said prices are elevated and should trend lower, in part, because of cheap and abundant crude.
“If you can hold out, these gas prices should begin inching lower again and, by the start of next week, could be about 10 cents a gallon lower than where they stand today,” DeHaan said.
DeHaan also said prices in west Michigan will remain below the $2 mark for the next several months.
