KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — The Kalamazoo County Clerk’s Office says a law eliminating local gun boards, which took effect Tuesday, should speed the carry-conceal licensing process.
That’s because the clerk’s office will now have direct discussions with Michigan State Police.
“We submit all the information to them, they do a check regarding court issues, arrest issues and all that kind of stuff, and they will respond back to us and tell us to go ahead,” Tim Snow, the county’s clerk, said on Tuesday.
Snow also said applicants should be optimistic about the new permitting timeframe.
“It’s tough to know for sure, but there’s no indication that it’ll take longer than a week or two,” Snow said.
The National Rifle Association says the revisions, which will put all permitting decisions in the hands of a 13-person team in Lansing, will eliminate what they claim are needless delays and arbitrary denials.
