LANSING (WKZO-AM) State Rep. Brandt Iden, R-Oshtemo, said the legislature will likely adjourn this year without passage of a plan to overhaul Michigan’s energy policy.
It was one of Gov. Rick Snyder’s biggest priorities for 2015, but Iden said, with focus on establishing an education and operations district for Detroit Public Schools and tax breaks for the Steelcase Pyramid data center project in Grand Rapids, there’s little room for energy reform right now.
“We just got a lot of things on our plate,” Iden said. “I’m not certain we have enough time to fit it all in.”
But he also said the House will try.
“We’re still going to push hard to get a resolution out of the House,” Iden said. “The Senate did make the statement that they didn’t want to do anything on the energy policy stuff until the first quarter next year.”
Legislators are wrestling over how to encourage renewable energy growth and whether to still allow Michigan customers to purchase cheaper out-of-state power.
