ALBION (WKZO-AM) — Albion has begun the process of getting out of the education business.
Albion’s high school students already go to Marshall Public Schools because of declining enrollment and state funding issues. Now the Albion Board of Education has taken a preliminary vote initiating the process to have the rest of the Albion School District absorbed by Marshall.
Despite closing the high school, the Albion district still generated a $1.8 million deficit last year just operating kindergarten through 8th grade. It’s called “annexation,” and it will still have to be approved by state officials. It will also need to gain approval from Marshall’s school board and Albion voters.
They’re shooting for a vote next March.
