LANSING (WKZO-AM) — The Michigan Department of Transportation is expected to release a report this morning on the relative safety of Interstate 94 between Jackson and the Indiana border at New Buffalo.
The report was triggered by last January’s record-breaking collision on the freeway near Galesburg that involved 193 vehicles. Some claim that stretch, known as the “Galesburg Triangle,” is one of the most-dangerous freeway stretches in the state, which MDOT initially called a myth.
That prompted Sen. Margaret O’Brien to ask the Gov. Rick Snyder for an audit.
In their investigation of the crash, Michigan State Police issued dozens of citations, blaming drivers for traveling too fast for conditions.
The roadway was slick. A whiteout made it impossible to see the vehicles crashing just ahead.
