KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — A petition signed by 1,600 residents and intervention by Michigan’s two senators has delayed the deportation of a Kalamazoo woman.
Rejoice Musa says Nigeria, her home country, is controlled by the terrorist group Boku Haram.
A temporary stay of deportation was issued this week until May.
She has an American-born son named Frederick, an aviation degree from Western Michigan University and a job with Stryker.
Michigan United says an exemption allowing the immigrant parents of American-born children to stay in the country would have applied in her case, but it’s on hold because of state challenges, including one filed by Attorney General Bill Schuette.
