PAW PAW (WKZO-AM) — Michigan State Police say motorists will notice a greater number of troopers monitoring freeway traffic this Thanksgiving.
Lt. Dale Hinz says they’re doubling the officer count, beginning Wednesday morning.
“It’s really an all-hands-on-deck situation to make sure that everybody is driving safely, to make sure that everybody arrives at their destination,” Hinz said.
It’s part of the 50-state Combined Accident Reduction Effort.
“It will put additional troopers on the freeways (who will be) looking especially for impaired driving, seatbelt use, careless driving and speeding,” Hinz said.
The nationwide initiative actually started as a collaboration between MSP and Indiana troopers in 1977.
The increased patrols will run through Sunday.
