DETROIT (WKZO) — Detroit’s Big Three automakers now all have agreements with the United Automobile Workers but it wasn’t as easy this time, because workers had higher expectations now that the automakers are making big profits too.
The UAW ratified contracts Friday with General Motors and the Ford Motor Company.
A tentative deal between GM and union workers reached in October was rejected by the company’s skilled trade workers. The union said talks with GM resumed after a meeting with skilled trade workers resulted in changes protecting seniority rights and job classifications.
Ford workers ratified a new four-year agreement by a narrow 51% margin. The new contract covering 52-thousand employees calls for raises for all workers.
It took two tries to get a Fiat-Chrysler deal approved by the rank and file earlier this fall. They were first to negotiate this time around.
