LANSING (WKZO-AM) — Last January’s chain-reaction pileup on Interstate 94 in eastern Kalamazoo County was the largest in state history, and, at the time, officials wondered if it could be blamed on the design of the road.
We will soon find out.
At the request of Sen. Margaret O’Brien, R-Portage, Gov. Rick Snyder has requested the Michigan Department of Transportation and Michigan State Police conduct a road safety audit of that portion of I-94.
O’Brien said the 12 miles of I-94 that run through the county have averaged well over 200 crashes each year. She claims the stretch is particularly dangerous.
MDOT decided to audit the road from the Indiana line to Jackson.
Results of that study will be released a week from Monday at KVCC.
MSP investigation blamed the crash on drivers who were traveling too fast for conditions. Dozens of tickets were written.
The report will be presented at the MTEC Center at Kalamazoo County Community College on Nov. 30th at 11 a.m.
