KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — With southwest Michigan’s first big fall snowstorm set to hit as early as Friday night, the Michigan Department of Transportation says snow-removal teams will be busy monitoring conditions through the weekend.
MDOT spokesperson Nick Schirripa says the agency’s over 100 plows in the seven-county southwest region are gassed up and ready to go.
“We have routes already predetermined for each of our plows,” Schirripa said. “That’s all kind of laid out beforehand.”
He says plows won’t start hitting the pavement until the snow starts sticking, but some preventative work might take place before the snow begins to fall.
“We may do some pre-treating on Friday in some areas,” Schirripa said. “It’ll help slow that freeze, or help prevent snow from freeing on the roads and make it easy to remove.”
If you encounter a plow this weekend, Schirripa says take it slow and give the driver plenty of room.
