GRAND RAPIDS (WKZO-AM) — A Syrian refugee who has already made it to west Michigan hopes that Gov. Rick Snyder’s decision to suspend letting others like him enter the country is only temporary.
Kivah Mohammed, 20, said he fled Syria five years ago and getting here has been a process.
“They’re just innocent people trying to run away from (ISIS),” Mohammed said.
He fears closing borders in the United States and Europe will force refugees to go back to Syria, where their only option may be joining ISIS if they hope to survive.
“When I came here, I didn’t just buy a ticket,” Mohammed said. “I’ve been through a program for two-and-a-half years.” He also said he loves West Michigan.
