GRAND RAPIDS (WKZO-AM) — The vacant Steelcase Pyramid building could become the largest data center in the eastern United States.
They say the $5 billion project, entitled “Supernap Michigan,” would create 1,000 permanent jobs over a 10 year period. It would also create hundreds of temporary construction jobs, as they add buildings to what could eventually be a 2 million sq. ft. campus in Gaines Township.
Birgit Klohs at the Right Place said all they need is the Michigan Legislature to sign off on tax incentives as soon as possible.
“In three weeks, hopefully, or by the end of the year, then (we’ll be in) good shape,” Klohs said.
The buildings would be filled with high-tech servers that would be used by clients like eBay, Intel and HP. They would be provided cloud, Internet sales and data storage services.
he bills have been introduced in Lansing. The legislature isn’t scheduled to meet again until December.
