BATTLE CREEK (WKZO-AM) — Police have jailed a 37-year-old man accused of opening fire during an attempted drive-by shooting at High and Echo streets in Battle Creek, nearly running over officers after crashing into a utility pole and slamming his vehicle into reverse.
One officer opened fire and struck the vehicle with a round during the incident after 2 a.m. Monday.
The driver surrendered after the crash, which left 50 people without power.
Investigators are trying to figure out what led to the drive-by, but say the suspect was partying with the targets of the gunfire late Sunday.
