KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Hundreds turned out under sunny skies and mild conditions for the dedication of the new veterans memorial at Riverside Cemetery.
It happened Wednesday afternoon. Seating quickly filled up, as far more people turned out than organizers expected.
National Guard General Thomas Edmonds gave the keynote address, urging the crowd to appreciate the veterans they see.
“Just stick out your hand and say thanks,” Edmonds said. “Don’t hesitate to engage them in conversation, ask them what they did and where they did it.”
It was actually two events in one. The Westwood Garden Club rededicated the refurbished Veterans Memorial then The Kalamazoo Sunrise Rotary staged their annual Veterans Day ceremony.
There were patriotic songs, pipers, flags, cannons and bugles.
