COMSTOCK TOWNSHIP (WKZO-AM) — A 20-year-old Kalamazoo County woman has been released from the County Jail after Prosecutor Jeff Getting kicked the case back to detectives for more information.
She was arrested after a stabbing death at a residence n the 1200 block of Carter Street in Comstock Township.
Kalamazoo County Undersheriff Pauli Matyas says its a complex case. The woman has apparently had a relationship with the 35-year-old victim, a convicted sex offender, since she was 15, and he confirms their may be elements of self-defense in the case.
i”We got a call at about 7:30 a.m. about a domestic disturbance,” Matyas said. “When we got there, we found a 35-year-old male deceased from a stab wound.”
He said the woman who allegedly wielded the knife did not attempt to flee or try to cover up the stabbing. In fact, she called 911 and has been cooperative.
“We have been investigating ever since, trying to put together the events that took place, really, for quite awhile prior to the actual death,” Matyas said.
Matyas says there is no telling how long it may take to expand their investigation and report back to the Prosecutor. Under Michigan law, they can only old a suspect for 48-hours without filing charges, or having a very good reason and convincing a judge the need more time.
