KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — The refurbished veteran’s memorial at Riverside Cemetery east of downtown Kalamazoo will be unveiled during a special grand opening ceremony on Veterans Day, which is Wednesday.
Lorie Reed with the Westwood Garden Club says workers have been laying brick and sprucing up the site since May.
“On the lower historical part of the memorial, we hired building restoration to fix all of the mortar joints and the curbing and the steps, which were crumbling and falling apart,” Reed said. “The upper part of the memorial is all new.”
The project cost $115,000.
Former Kalamazoo County Sheriff and retired U.S. Air Force Brig. Gen. Tom Edmonds will deliver the keynote address at 2 p.m.
The memorial can be accessed from Gull Road.
