VAN BUREN COUNTY (WKZO-AM) — A 19-year-old from Vicksburg is sitting in jail after Van Buren County Sheriff’s investigators say he led deputies on a high-speed chase across townships in two counties.
The chase began when the teen was observed going 86 in a 55 mph zone in his a 1999 Chevrolet pickup on M-43.
Soon after the chase began, the suspect proceeded to use a ditch to get around slower vehicles. After that, he sped down side roads, reaching speeds of up to 100 mph.
Investigators say he then tore into Kalamazoo County, slowing on Wolf Drive near Van Kal Street. That’s where he gave himself up.
The teen told deputies he fled because he was already wanted on a warrant in Kalamazoo County. They also found marijuana in the truck.
He could be charged with fleeing and eluding and possession on Monday.
