VAN BUREN COUNTY (WKZO-AM) — Residents in the Sister Lakes area and in Van Buren County are being advised to be on the lookout for a man who is being sought for questioning for his role in a home invasion that was discovered Wednesday.
The adult son of the homeowner stopped by the home and spotted a strange car in the garage with the help of a neighbor. Michigan State Police say they confronted William Statler III of St. Joseph, who was sitting in the living room of the ransacked home, and things got physical quickly.
Statler was able to flee on foot after struggling with the two men. He left behind a female, 36-year-old Erin Scruggs of Benton Harbor, who was upstairs taking a shower. She remains in custody.
Statler left with stolen guns and is considered armed and dangerous, investigators said. He has now been linked to other crimes in Van Buren and Berrien counties.
If he is spotted, residents are urged to call police and avoid contact.
