KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — The suspect in Kalamazoo’s latest killing has been bound over to stand trial for the Aug. 9 shooting death of Edward Bell.
George Mack, 26, will be tried for open murder, felony firearms and other charges after he allegedly violated a personal protection order to confront Erica Bell, his ex-girlfriend, at her home on North Rose Street with an assault rifle.
Police say Mack shot Bell when he pushed his sister out of the way to protect her. Bell suffered a fatal chest wound and died at the scene.
Kalamazoo Public Safety thought they had tracked Mack to a home nearby where a stand-off occurred, until SWAT officers stormed the place and discovered Mack had fled. He was eventually captured in Las Vegas.
Mack is being held without bond.
