KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Kalamazoo County Sheriff Richard Fuller is urging parents to keep a close eye on their little ghosts and goblins while they’re on the streets trick-or-treating this Halloween.
“Don’t turn them over to the neighbor, don’t turn them over to an older sibling and say to be careful, go with them and be part of the fun with them,” Fuller said. “That’s one of the safest things you can do.”
But Fuller also said wearing reflective clothing isn’t a bad idea, either.
“Something that really shines when a light hit it from down the street,” Fuller said. “And, when we look at the masks that some of the kids are wearing, we want people to remember that they have to be able to see out of those things.”
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says fatal car crashes spike nearly 50 percent when Halloween falls on a weekend.
