HOLLAND (WKZO-AM) — Johnson Controls has agreed to pay $3.75 million back to the state after failing to create 400 jobs at its Meadowbrook advanced battery plant on 48th Street in Holland.
As part of the new deal with the Michigan Strategic Fund, JCI will maintain its 225-person workforce or face an $8.75 million penalty, lose a $125,000 annual tax break through the revocation of a Renaissance Zone designation for the site, and invest $12 million into the facility.
Slow battery industry development was noted by the fund board as a factor in the new deal.
