UNDATED (WKZO-AM) — A new report by the Institute for College Access and Success says Michigan college students are graduating with 57 percent more debt than a decade ago.
The non-profit says graduates left school with around $30,000 debt in 2014, with the mark approaching $40,000 at private schools and technical colleges. That number was at just under $19,000 in 2004.
They claim Michigan is in the middle of the pack nationally. Delaware’s 129 percent jump was the biggest gain, while Idaho’s 17 percent increase was the smallest.
Western Michigan University and Central Michigan University students are leaving school around $33,000 in the hole. Meanwhile, the burden at U-M and MSU is about $26,000.
