KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — WMU Political Science Professor Peter Wielhouwer thinks the problems that have dogged Hillary Clinton in the early stages of her presidential campaign may begin to fade now that she has gotten through several tough challenges she faced in October.
Her poll numbers, which had been slowly declining, began to tick upward since the debate because the American public was able to compare her directly to challenger Bernie Sanders. Since then, two other Democratic candidates, Lincoln Chafee and Jim Webb, have dropped out.
Dr. Wielhouwer says the decision by Vice President Joe Biden to stay out of the race gives her the opportunity to assume the mantle as the protector of the Obama legacy.
Wielhouwer also says that House Republican Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy’s statement that the Bengazi Hearings have been staged as part of a GOP strategy to bring down Clinton’s poll numbers has not only destroyed the credibility of those hearings, but will also deflated the controversy over her private E-mail server, which grew out of those hearings.
The election is now just over a year away.
