KALAMAZOO TOWNSHIP (WKZO-AM) — Fire investigators on Monday will be back on the scene of a Saturday fire at the Country Meadow Apartments on Sunnyside Drive on the east side of the metro area.
It’s one of a number of apartment complexes along Gull Road. Kalamazoo Township Fire Officials say the fire was called in just before 10:30 p.m. Saturday.
Everyone was safely evacuated from the building, including one woman who had to be rescued from a second-story balcony. There were reports of minor injuries to one tenant and one firefighter.
Some tenants complained they didn’t hear any smoke detectors go off. Others said the same building suffered a smaller fire last August and that damage was still being repaired when this latest fire struck the building.
The Red Cross is helping provide temporary shelter and other assistance to displaced tenants.
No damage estimate was released, but Township Fire Officials say this time it appears to be damaged beyond repairs.
