LANSING (WKZO-AM) — Concerns are being voiced about the roads plan approved by the House this week but says he is glad the impasse has been broken, but Republicans say they’re generally happy with the plan.
Senate Leader Arlen Meekof says he is also glad the house has gotten the ball rolling again, but was non-committal on its contents.
“There’s a couple things here and there that we found that were a little hurried and rushed,” Meekof said. “I don’t know, my caucus needs to look at some of the details,” Meekof said.
But he also says they are concerned it will take until four or five years from now to really kick in.
Senate Democratic Leader Jim Ananich says it’s never going to work.
“Three cents over how many years? You know, there’s $600 million that they can’t identify as cuts,” Ananich said. “I mean, this is an illusion. This is another example of fantasy.”
Meekof said the plan, which calls for $600 million in new taxes, $600 million in budget carve-outs and income tax cuts, will be studied over the weekend.
They will make a decision next week on whether to refer it to committee.
