PORTAGE (WKZO-AM) — Portage officials have released a summary of the grades city manager Laurence Shaffer received during a closed session performance evaluation Tuesday, saying he generally did a good job last year.
Council members thought Shaffer exceeded expectations for character and his demeanor with citizens and city staff, but was given a slightly lower grade for his relationship with council.
Schaffer was graded on a scale from one to five, with one indicating that he far exceeded expectations.
Schaffer was given an average 2.18 for character, a 1.95 for community relations, 2.5 for city council relations and a 2.33 for staff relations. The average was 2.21.
The city did not disclose the voting record for individual council members.
The average grade was good enough to net Schaffer a two percent raise to $132,600 and a $1,000 bonus.
