KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Commissioners have approved a plan to transfer the city of Kalamazoo’s public transportation assets to the new Kalamazoo County Transit Authority.
Vice Mayor Dave Anderson says it’s not the end of the process, however.
“We are at a momentous moment in this long, long journey,” Anderson said. “This is the beginning of all of the work now that still needs to happen over the course of the next year.”
It starts with an inventory of what the transportation system owns and uses. Talks will then begin over what will be transferred and what will be leased.
Authority chairperson Linda Teeter says the process has created a model not only for intergovernmental cooperation on transportation, but also on a wide range of other programs.
