KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — An Illinois man who killed a tenant at Goldentree Apartments on East Milham Avenue in Portage after refusing to turn down his radio has been sentenced to at least the next seven and a half years in prison
Devonte Parker, 21, was sentenced Monday.
In January, Parker was told by Kenneth Miller, 55, to turn down the radio. He later called public safety and told him wasn’t going to let him leave.
Parker hit the gas of his car and fled, with Miller clinging to his hood. Miller fell off about a quarter-mile from the complex and suffered fatal head injuries.
Parker fled from police, but was arrested after being chased down.
The prosecutor charged Parker with second-degree murder, but the jury reduced that charge to reckless driving causing death.
