KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Peter Buffet is not the typical child of a billionaire, at least not the kind Kalamazoo is used to.
He is not at all reclusive, and he plays piano for a living — at least he did and last night when he was in Kalamazoo.
He knew Warren Buffet before he was Warren Buffet and grew up with his father, mother, brother and sister in a typical Midwestern home. He also went to public schools and made his living as a young adult as a struggling musician.
He eventually had some success with that.
About ten years ago, his life changed when dad gave him a billion dollar foundation and told him to give it away wisely.
He now runs the foundation part-time and also travels the country, sitting at a piano, playing music and offering advice to donors and foundations on how its best to spend that money getting at the root of problems.
His Novo Foundation, which is run primarily by his wife, focuses on furthering the advancement of women and young girls, dealing with justice and equality and fighting abuse and discrimination.
