KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Two events will be held Friday celebrating the impact that Dr. Elson Floyd had on Western Michigan University and the Kalamazoo community.
Floyd died in June, succumbing to cancer.
An invitation-only event will be held to re-dedicate and rename the College of Engineering at the school’s business, technology and research park. Elson Floyd Hall will feature a portrait of Dr. Floyd that will also be unveiled in the main lobby at the ceremony.
A community celebration of Floyd’s life will be held on campus, featuring remarks by Dr. Floyd’s widow and former WMU first lady Carmento Floyd and WMU president John Dunn. There will also be music and other salutes.
It will begin at 4 p.m. at the Dalton Recital Hall.
