KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — The Kalamazoo County Prosecutor’s office says it will not be issuing charges against the 12-year-old boy who shot and killed a pregnant woman in May.
They say the child that killed Debbie Christner, 28, has severe mental problems.
He had managed to get his hands on his grandfather’s keys and got into a locked gun safe, and was trying to unload a shotgun when it discharged into a wall at the home on Dwight Street.
Christner was struck by the round as she was sleeping on a sofa on the other side of the wall.
The official ruling is that the boy is not competent to stand trial.
