FENNVILLE (WKZO-AM) — There were only a few references to the scandal involving Cindy Gamrat during a debate between seven Republican candidates vying for the vacant 80th district seat.
The debate took place at Fennville High School.
Gamrat is trying to recapture the seat she was expelled from a month ago. She was asked how she could effectively represent the district, even if she won.
Kevin Travis said he would vote for the Democrat before he would vote for Gamrat, but, other than that, and her apology in her opening statement, little was said of the scandal.
The winner of the Nov. 3 primary will take on retired judge David Gernat, who is running as a Democrat.
Gamrat is accused of using taxpayer resources to cover up a sexual relationship with another former conservative representative, Todd Courser of Lapeer. Courser stepped down hours before Gamrat’s resignation.
