LAWRENCE (WKZO-AM) — Three people are hospitalized in critical condition after a two-vehicle wreck in Lawrence, just northwest of the Reynells Poultry Farm.
It happened on Red Arrow Highway near County Road 374 before 10 a.m. Tuesday, forcing a shutdown of the road.
Van Buren County Sheriff’s investigators are trying to figure out what triggered the wreck.
UPDATE: 10/14 at 5:05 a.m. — Sheriff’s investigators say both drivers involved in the accident are now in stable condition, and a third person, who was a passenger in on the vehicles, has been released from Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo.
Deputies say a 24-year-old driver of a pick-up was traveling west on Red Arrow Highway near County Road 374 when he lost control on wet pavement, crossed the center line and slammed head-on into a van being driven by 67-year-old man from Lawrence.
The pick-up burst into flames upon impact, but was quickly extinguished.
The two drivers were both hospitalized with multiple injuries, including broken bones.
