KALAMAZOO TOWNSHIP (WKZO-AM) — Kalamazoo Township is formulating a plan to improve their inventory of sidewalks and other non-motorized transportation routes, now that they’ve agreed to spend $10 million fixing local streets.
Trustees have not yet identified how they are going to fund the improvements and say they’ll consider the improvements on a project-by-project basis.
The first priority will be completing sidewalks near schools, libraries and playgrounds.
“(We’ll be looking at) sidewalks that do not have connections to the road, where a curb might just abruptly end,” Trustee Steve Leuty said.
They will also be looking at more signs for existing bike paths and possible connections to the metropolitan trail system. Leuty said the work might take years to complete.
