PORTAGE (WKZO-AM) — Portage residents will be heading to the polls Nov. 3 to vote on a pair of bond measures aimed at improving Portage Public Schools facilities.
The first proposal would replace North and Central middle schools, install a pair of new pools and set aside money to buy new buses and technology, while the second would replace the decades-old McCamley Field with two new stadiums.
Supt. Mark Bielang said the combined price tag is $144 million.
“The millage rate would be increased by 1.55 mills,” Bielang said. “The average home is about $150,000, so that translates to just under $10 a month.”
Bielang appeared on WKZO-AM’s Kalamazoo’s Morning News on Monday.
Administrators approved the verbiage of both questions in June. The district is holding walking tours of the structures they’re trying to replace Tuesday and Wednesday.
