JACKSON (WKZO-AM) — Consumers Energy says its gas customers will pay a bit less to heat their homes this winter.
“We’re forcasting about a 15 percent drop heading into the heating season,” Dan Bishop, a spokesperson for the utility, said Monday.”That will save the average residential customer about $100.”
Bishop said several factors are playing into why they’re anticipating the dip.
“The country is awash in natural gas, which is a tremendous thing,” Bishop said. “But also, Consumers is able to make purchases of natural gas over the summer, when it’s a little less costly.”
Natural gas prices are currently at $3.31 per thousand cubic feet. That’s 60 percent lower than where the price was at a decade ago, Bishop said.
