KALAMAZOO (WKZO) — WMU held off a late charge by the rival CMU Chippewa’s to hang on to a 41 to 39 victory, and retain the Cannon Trophy for another year.
The Broncos have dominated the series lately, winning four of the last five games against CMU, but the games have rarely been this high scoring.
Quarterback Zach Terrell threw four touchdowns, three of them to wide receiver Daniel Braverman. Running back Jarvion Franklin scored on a run.
WMU are now 1-0 in MAC play.
Next weekend they travel to Ohio University to play the Bobcats.
ANN ARBOR (WKZO) — Expect the 18th ranked Wolverines to move quite a bit higher in the standings after producing their third straight shutout, this time against 14th-ranked Northwestern.
Michigan scored on offense, defense, and special teams as they racked up their fifth straight victory 38-0 at the Big House.
The previously unbeaten Wildcats were served notice when the Wolverines returned the opening kick 96 yards for a score.
U of M’s Jourdan Lewis returned an interception 37 yards for a TD as the Wolverines held a 28-0 lead at the half.
The Wildcats were held to just 168 yards of total offense.
PISCATAWAY, NEW JERSEY (WKZO) — The Michigan State Spartans remain undefeated but it took them all four quarters yesterday to beat the Scarlet Knights of Rutgers in New Jersey, and then only because they were able to pull it out in the last 43-seconds with a short run by L.J. Scott, 31 to 24.
MSU QB Connor Cook made 23 of 38 passes for 357 yards, his highest total yardage so far this fall.
Two passes resulted in touchdowns.
This coming weekend Michigan State will face a real test when they travel to Ann Arbor to take on the surging Wolverines in the Big House.
