LANSING, MI (WHTC) – A poll conducted by Grassroots Midwest, Inside Michigan Politics and Target Insyght has Allegan County Republican Party Vice-Chairwoman Mary Whiteford leading in the race for the GOP nomination in a special state House primary election on November 3rd. She got 31 percent support from likely Republican primary voters, while Cindy Gamrat, whose expulsion last month from the Lower Chamber created the vacancy, is second with 14 percent and Allegan County Commissioner Jim Storey third at 13 percent. There are eight Republicans vying to face Democrat David Gernant on March 8th. In addition, the survey showed that 18 percent of Republican primary voters would support Gernant in the special election if Gamrat wins the GOP nomination, and that’s part of 61 percent that would stay home if Gamrat once again carries the Republican banner. The poll shows her with a 19 percent favorability rating.
