BATTLE CREEK (WKZO-AM) — Agriculture officials have found another skimmer attached to the card reader in a gas pump at a BP station on Capitol Avenue near Interstate 94 in Battle Creek.
It’s the first one found in the Cereal City.
The thieves picked a pump furthest from the cashier’s view and closest to a major highway. There is no way of telling how long it may have been there.
Agriculture officials have started regular sweeps looking for the devices, but, with over 100,000 pumps in the state and few inspectors on staff, the search isn’t quick.
Since the beginning of October, skimmers have been found pumps in Albion, Ann Arbor and Kentwood. Before that, nearly a half-dozen others have turned up in pumps in Mattawan and Kent County.
