BATTLE CREEK (WHTC-AM) — Battle Creek police have released more information about a missing girl and her mom, who is violating a court order requiring her to turn her daughter over to child protective services.
Police believe Cassandra Elswick took off with five-year-old daughter Haley in a two-tone green and tan Ford Escort with Michigan plates with the license number DEH-4830.
They claim her mother, who has a history of drug abuse, and her boyfriend, who was convicted of first-degree child abuse in 2000, left the state to avoid having their fitness for parenthood questioned by CPS workers. Investigators believe they may have fled Michigan about a month ago.
Efforts to find the couple and child have since have failed, and family members fear the girl may be in danger.
The girl’s mother recently posted a Facebook message to her family, asking them to leave her alone.
Anyone with information is asked to call police at (269) 966-3375.
