KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — It’s was a busy day at the new Popeyes restaurant on West Main Street in Kalamazoo.
There were people out the door and lines of cars two blocks long, all waiting to get to the drive-in window late Monday afternoon and night, with customers still in line at 11 when they were supposed to close.
Carla Bean, the store’s training manager, says it’s great to be back in Kalamazoo — a store on Gull Road closed in 2007.
“It’s been exciting, fast-paced, and it’s been a long day,” Bean said. “We’ve had a lot of customers, and it seems like they’ve been happy.”
“And, we’ve sold a lot of chicken — a lot of chicken,” Bean added.
She didn’t have an exact count for the number of meals sold Monday, but Bean said food was flying out the door.
“We’re pretty sure we set some records with corporate,” Bean said.
The franchise belongs to a Battle Creek couple who had only worked at a Popeye’s before the business venture.
