LAKE MICHIGAN (WKZO-AM) — The search continues for two boaters from the city of Wyoming who are apparently lost on Lake Michigan.
The relatives of 40-year-old Aaron Juarez and 25-year-old Christopher Thode are pleading with everyone on the lakeshore to keep their eyes peeled both men, who went out salmon fishing last Saturday morning.
Rene Palermo said both men usually went out far enough to get into deep water, but never so far that they’d lose sight of land. No one realized they were missing until sometime Tuesday.
Their truck and boat trailer were found still parked near the Pigeon Lake Access in Port Sheldon Township in Ottawa County.
Coast Guard spokesperson Justin Olson said they had four planes and helicopters and several boats, all with night-sensitive devices and radar, saying it’s still a rescue operation.
“Lake Michigan is just as big and vast as the ocean in certain spots,” Olson said. “It’s a very large piece of water for a small boat.”
He said they have covered 1,500 square miles, following likely drift, wind and tide patterns.
