GRAND RAPIDS (WKZO-AM) — Democrats are pushing a new plan they claim will cut taxes for Michigan families and individuals, but pundits in Lansing say the plan will be DOA in the Republican-controlled legislature.
Senate Minority Leader Jim Ananich of Flint joined Rep. Winnie Brinks of Grand Rapids to unveil the plan in west Michigan on Tuesday.
“Our plan takes aim at what is called the middle-class squeeze, that so many families in Michigan are facing,” Brinks said.
Called the “Blueprint for Michigan’s Families,” the plan would create tax credits for families earning up to $100,000 and a credit for people trying to pay off student loans.
It would also expand the Homestead Property Tax Credit.
House Minority Leader Tim Greimel said paying for the plan could be done with a modest bump in the corporate income tax, or by renegotiating tax credits for corporations.
