UNDATED (WKZO-AM) — Two more cases of Eastern equine encephalitis have been identified by Michigan agricultural officials in Calhoun and Van Buren counties.
EEE, much like West Nile Virus, is transported by birds and delivered to victims by mosquitos. The big difference is that it primarily infects horses, although the so-called “sleeping sickness” can effect humans and small animals.
The first case was identified last month in Barry County. In all three cases, the horses had not been vaccinated and were euthanized.
