KALAMAZOO TOWNSHIP (WKZO-AM) — Kalamazoo Township officials are exploring the idea of going to a single-source waste hauler to see if it will save residents any money.
Trustee Donald Martin said one clear advantage to the proposed method is that it would eliminate the current truck traffic that appears on township streets every trash day, when all the different waste haulers, recycling trucks and rubbish collectors have to cover the same routes.
“It would also be something cost-effective for the residents, and it would also be something that would save our roads,” Martin said.
Trustees received their first presentation on the concept this week. More public discussions are planned before a decision is made.
Portage officials are also examining the single-source idea.
