KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — A former assistant prosecutor who was drunk when she caused an accident that left her and another woman seriously injured last March has been given time in jail and three years of probation.
A tearful Paige Timmer apologized to Lenia Harris during her sentencing on Monday. Harris was the woman Timmer forced off the road near Waldo Stadium when both crashed in the spring of last year.
During her victim impact statement, Harris told the court that she was frustrated by Timmer’s legal maneuverings to try to and avoid responsibility. She also said she was still in pain, recovering and would need additional surgery.
The judge gave Timmer two months in jail, but deferred carrying out the sentence until after a hearing next May. If she doesn’t violate probation and stays sober, she may have her sentence reduced. She will be on an alcohol tether for the next four months.
Because of her felony plea, Timmer was also stripped of her license to practice law. She may have the opportunity to regain her license in the future, however.
