ANN ARBOR (WKZO) — A Michigan team came away with a big upset on Saturday, but it was not Western or Central.The University of Michigan not only beat 22nd ranked BYU, but they shut them out 31 to 0.
The Wolverines got a scare when starting running back De’Veon Smith was carted off to the locker room after an ankle injury late in the third quarter.
He had already gained 125-yards and scored a touchdown Saturday. X-rays were negative.
He says he was banged up but says he expects to play next week when Michigan opens Big-Ten play against Maryland.
WMU Lost to the #1 ranked Ohio State Buckeyes 38 to 12 at the Horseshoe in Ohio.
Buckeye QB Cardale Jones threw two touchdown passes and Adolphus Washington returned an interception for a score. It was Ohio State’s 17th straight win. WMU never led.
Zach Terrell threw a 55-yard TD to Daniel Braverman, but also threw that interception that gave the Buckeyes a 24 to 6 lead at the half.
The Chippewa’s were still within range of upsetting the MSU Spartans going into the fourth quarter, but two runs to the end zone by Gerald Holmes put it away for the #2 ranked Spartans, who won 30 to 10 in East Lansing on Saturday.
Connor Cook was held to only 143 yards passing, not one of his best games, but good enough to beat Central.
